1922 - On June 13th, architects Richards, McCarty, and Bulford break ground on a new building, intended to replace South High School. The building, to be completed at a final cost of $814,000, will offer increased capacity and improved facilities. The groundbreaking takes place at an 11.5-acre plot of land bound by Ann Street on the west side, Thurman Avenue on the south side, 18th Street on the east side, and the alley south of Stewart Avenue on the north side. Columbus Public Schools plans to name the new building Abraham Lincoln High School, in honor of the former President. The community circulates a petition to retain the original name of the school.

Spring, 1922 - The South High School boys track team wins its 1st Columbus City League Championship.

Fall, 1922 - The first marching band is organized to play at South High School football games.
