DesignGroup, an American Institute of Architects Ohio Gold Medal Firm, begins major renovations at South High School. This project includes renovating the 136,900 square-foot structure, as well as building a 17,697 square-foot addition and upgrading the existing athletic facilities and auditorium. Preservation consultants work as part of the design team to identify, protect, and enhance significant "character-defining" features of the school and site. The project will cost the district an estimated $30,000,000. An additional $850,000 is set aside for the renovation of the original South High School, located at 345 East Deshler Avenue, for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years. The building has been vacant since Barrett Middle School closed in June of 2006.
